US Election result maps, with corrections for population density and corrections for counties that split Rep/Dem. It's a bit more encouraging than the one we've been seeing.

ETA: There are rumors floating that Gov. Howard Dean will seek the chairmanship of the Democratic National Committee. That could be interesting.

What's your opinion of Howard Dean then?

He could be really interesting and invigorating as the DNC chair. Terry McAuliff (current chair) is really not forward-thinking, is reactionary, and tends to play it safe. Personally, I don't think that's a winning strategy. Dean would bring a real leftist, proactive mindset to the party. The only hitch is, would the rest of the party get behind him? We'll see.

The Democrats definitely have to come up with some positive unifying strategy ASAP (i.e. our only unifying strategy, "Anyone but Bush" was negative, and it failed). I don't know that it's possible to unite the party into one unifying stragegy. The Republicans basically said "Fuck you" to the moderate ones in their party and ran on a far right platform. I don't know if it's better for the Dems to do that, or to say "Fuck you" to those of us further to the left.

If I end up deciding to study GIS, I could make pretty maps. Ooooo! They might even be shiny if I printed them out and colored them.

I don't know if we need to say fuck you to the moderate Dems, but I certainly think we as a party need to stand for something and not simply against the GOP. Maybe Dean could act as a lightning rod to catalyze that process.

Ooh, pretty shiny maps!
