Voigt is not a small woman but to cancel a performance by one of the most sought-after sopranos in the world based on her size seems absurd. I hope she sues. The article is here.
Hopefully, once donors realize that the most sought-after sopranos in the world will never sing at that opera house due to the casting director's decision, there will be a change. It's not as if ticket sales drive opera's finances. It would only take a couple of wealthy people who love opera to make a difference (and send the casting director packing.)
Very, very strange. Have the Royal Opera House brought in image consultants? Or perhaps this is the start of "Opera-Idol", where looks are everything and vocal talent matters not?
I mean opera singers have always been renowned for their slimline figures haven't they Senor Pavarotti?

Yes, I've just heard that Simon Cowell is the new booking agent for the Royal Opera House. Super!

Too true. I almost hate to go here, but we do have a phrase in English it's not over 'til the fat lady sings. Hmmmm, I wonder where that came from?
