Senior of high school, I had an advanced science class that was my first exposure to biochemistry. Prior to that, I really wasn't interested in science; I'd planned to major in mathematics. But the realization that all these crazy chemical reactions were going on in every cell in my body blew me away. I had to know more. So I got a bachelors degree in biochemistry.
After that, it was a matter of taking what I knew and applying it to biomedical research. I got a masters degree in pharmacology and molecular sciences.

Good enough, or do you want to know more?
