This that & the other

Caught Bubba Ho-Tep this weekend. Heh. I'm not sure what to say except that it's weird, sincere, funny as hell, and kind of sad. Bruce Campbell rocks my socks and Ossie Davis makes a fine JFK. Go see it.

Finished Tropic of Cancer even though I hated to have it end. The things he described were horrible and ugly, but his descriptions were beautiful. Guh.

Also finished Sarah Waters' Affinity. I'd read her other two and folks said this was her weakest. I'm in agreement. It's a good trash read; it took all of a day to finish; but I felt cheated by the ending. It reminded me of the scene in Murder by Death where Truman Capote accuses the Agatha Christie character of cheating in her stories; withholding one key piece of information until the very end. And then voila! Twist ending. *snarl*

We watched the third episode of Tarzan last night. Ow, my brain hurts! Hey director, here's a neat idea: instead of splicing in lame alterna-lite rock songs to explain your character's mood, try making your actors fucking *act.* But still, Lucy! And evil nasty Mitch. (Ooh, go you big butch thing!) If only they got rid of that damn Tarzan and Jane, it might be a halfway decent show. Hrm.

Whee! Henry Miller! I've got two copies of Tropic of Cancer, both hardback (one was an accident because I was aiming for Tropic of Capricorn - which I now have). I also have a copy of Nexus (but not Plexus or Sexus, you note).

Also, have you ever read Henry and June by Anias Nin?

I do like his descriptions, they're a strange mix of blood, guts and poetry. Always interesting.

Never read Henry and June but it's on the list. I've been hitting my fave used book store to see what paperback gems I can pick up. Makes the train ride to and from work so much more enjoyable.

So yeah, cross your fingers that I can find some new treasures the next time I'm in there. Henry. Guh.
