hmmmm

What does one do for a living when one's singular passion is to understand how everything works?

Make trebuchets out of paperclips.

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 05:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but someone's already got that covered.

[identity profile] gonzo21.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank god for that, is all I can say.

Have you thought about founding your own religion perhaps?

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmmm. Has it worked thus far for you?

[identity profile] gonzo21.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Not so well, but I've never really thrown myself into it, it's more something other people have forced upon me.

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2006-06-05 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
That's true. The little thing about resembling Jesus will do that, I suppose.

I could be rather good at founding my own religion. Or taking over the world. Or both.

If I could only find some decent henchpersons.

It's the sort of thing where sometimes I half think that if my ego picked it up and ran with it, we could all wind up in a very strange place indeed. :)

And hencpeople is the secret, you can't do everything yourself, you need a good group of people to delegate to.

At this point in my life, I'm becoming more interested in Things of the metaphysical rather than physical nature. But up 'til now, I've very much been a "yes let's take it apart to see how it ticks" sort.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tao_of_Physics
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gödel%2C_Escher%2C_Bach:_an_Eternal_Golden_Braid

maybe start with those two books?

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 07:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh. Interesting.

[identity profile] themongkey.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Dismantle things. Duh.

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
But what about things that aren't easily dismantled, like spacetime and reality and such?

[identity profile] king-ghidorah.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Supervillains are always trying to dismantle those kinds of things.

Ever think of something in that field? Can you gloat? Do you have henchmen?

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I can in fact gloat, I do it well. And I'm currently in the market for a couple of good men to hench, but it's so hard to find good help these days. I get to the part of the interview about digging up bodies and they inevitably run screaming from the room.

[identity profile] themongkey.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Start with something easy, like... people!

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Been there, done that. ;)

[identity profile] mycorethoughts.livejournal.com 2006-06-03 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
My vote, aside from the metaphysical, is astrophysics. If I had the mind and the wherewithal to get through a doctorate, that's what I'd go for.

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2006-06-05 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
That would be so much fun! I've just finished watching the NOVA series "Elegant Universe" and loved it. I'm about a third through Brian Greene's book of the same name.
