oh noes

There is a post on [livejournal.com profile] lj_biz regarding Six Apart's plans to rollout Sponsored communities and sponsored features "run by companies who are looking for a way to connect and interact with people who are interested in finding out more about their products."

Go here to tell them what you think of the idea.

IT doesn't sound too bad...especially given the edited clarifications put in. It's not like we all have to use the new sponsored stuff necessarily...

I get that, and I agree that opting in doesn't sound too bad. What bothers me is, what happens to some movie community like [livejournal.com profile] scienceofsleep after the movie launches? Is the production company going to maintain it, or will it become just another piece of internet detritis taking up bandwidth? Will I have to ban a company's spambots from commenting to my journal? What is this change going to do to livejournal as a whole?

Oh good point. I hadn't thought of many of those questions...

Yeah. I have a Myspace account and I'm totally cool with adding band pages or other commercial profiles. But Myspace is a completely different type of space/experience than LJ; I'd kind of like it to stay that way. That's my opinion.

Oh I completely agree. I had a MySpace for about a day...Got sick of the crap...and the asshat that was spamming/dissing my picture by repeatedly making "whale" comments. So I deleted that acct and haven't gone back since...

Jeez, that's messed up. I keep things reined in pretty tightly. I have some good friends whose bands are on Myspace, and some less than close friends whose bands are on their too.

yeah, my brother's old band had a MySpace page. And I think his new one should, as well, but I don't know the name of it...
