Prepare the way...

We just watched the first part of "Angels in America." I feel battered, bruised, run over by a truck. Very affecting drama with solid performances. Wow.

In other news, we decorated for Christmas this evening. I consider that quite an accomplishment, given the trepidation with which I view the holidays. But we put up the tree and decorated it while listening to the Nutcracker, then strung the extra lights along the living room. I am pleased to report that this makes me feel happy and celebratory.

Don't you have cats? (Just askin'... cuz all the wonder of my tree has now vanished as the cats climb further and further to the top)

[identity profile] wafflelips.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
Generally our cats don't mess with the tree that much. Frank will chew on it a bit. One of these days I swear he'll get electrocuted from chewing on the lights. Won't stop him from doing it in the future, of course.

The boys really aren't climbers. They'll bat at any low-hanging ornaments, which is why nothing breakable goes on low branches. And there's the chewing.

[identity profile] nightxade.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 10:10 am (UTC)(link)
All of my breakables have been removed and the rest are huddled in the top 2 feet of the tree. It's not a very pretty tree anymore, but as long as the kitties like it. Next year hopefully they will not be so destructive.

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. We're lucky in that respect. We just have to keep things off the bottom-most branches. They like to bat at things, but that's about it.

In past years I've caught them dozing under the tree. I think they enjoy the lights and the enclosed feeling. Our kitties are big saps.

Jeez. That movie made me cry more than any other! I wonder if part 2 will wreck me, too.

[identity profile] wafflelips.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 10:07 am (UTC)(link)
Great. I'm torn between being avoiding the emotional wreck thing and finding out what happens. Damn tv! ;-)

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 10:12 am (UTC)(link)
Aw, you know we'll watch it. We're hooked.

[identity profile] wafflelips.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah we are.

Remind me to tape it for Doug. Who still hasn't watched the Carnivale eps he has. And we have the last two at home for him to watch, too.

If he doesn't get it together, I'm revoking his geek membership card.

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
What the hell is he up to? Playing basketball or something equally unlike him?

[identity profile] wafflelips.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Rich told me that he danced at J and D's wedding. With chicks! He did a shot, then got out on the dance floor.

Yes, Doug! I'm so proud!

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Holy fuck! Doug did that?!? Go him!

[identity profile] wafflelips.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, I was shocked, too! I didn't get a chance to ask him about it today, but I will tomorrow. Whee!!

i really want to see "Angels in America," but didn't watch it last night because of alias..and i knew that HBO would be running it all month. I'm going to try to tape the whole thing so i can watch when i have time and am ready for a good cry. i'm sure it'll make me just bawl. props to HBO for tackling this story.

yay for decorating for christmas and the happy, celebratory feeling that came along with it. i'm looking forward to seeing the place all decorated and festive this weekend. :) i'll live vicariously through your fun christmas-y apartment.

I was crying buckets. I'm not sure if its the anxiousness of what the next six weeks could hold, or if it just really got to me. Or both. I wasn't sure I'd like it, but am enjoying it.

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 10:50 am (UTC)(link)
Me too. It also reminded me of how angry I was at Reagan, how furious I was at his lack of action regarding AIDS funding for research and treatment. I was in high school, too young to vote, and I felt so powerless. I hated that guy.

[identity profile] wafflelips.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Reagan. Grr. Arrgh.

[identity profile] virginmartyr1.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
stoopid dumb horrible reagan who ruined everything. arg grrr

this is scary, but i think dubya is worse. eek

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they're about equal in terms of shittiness. Dubya certainly aspires to be like Reagan. Hopefully we can get the fucker voted out of office after one term.

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 10:52 am (UTC)(link)
They're running part one all this week, and part 2 on Sunday. I'm sure they'll run repeats of part 2 next week. Definitely watch. It's important.

Saturday will be fun, festive, and sugar-filled. Yay!

PS sorry I didn't call you back yesterday. There was a whole series of errands, long phone calls, etc. Was the movie good?

no worries. just thought i'd call in case you guys were interested...um, the movie was ok. i was disappointed by the simplicity of it and the lack of explanation regarding some events. it kind of has to be seen i guess though, since we've gotten this far, ya know? it was better than revisted, in my opinion, but i still felt gypped.

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 12:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I've not heard many good things about it. I'm waiting to rent it.

[identity profile] wafflelips.livejournal.com 2003-12-08 12:39 pm (UTC)(link)
The second one wasn't that great, either, so I wasn't expecting much from the final one.
