I decided to fix myself a PJ Harvey icon while I'm waiting for her new album. I dig her lots and lots; very talented songwriter.

The choir is planning its spring concert. Given that we're doing a concert with Lucy Blue Tremblay in February and going to Montreal in July, the logistics of putting together a full-length concert in May or June are hellish. One of the ideas that was floated was having a short program followed by a dance.

I don't know how I feel about that. A dance sponsored by a bunch of middle-aged lesbians; who will DJ? What will they play? I have this horrid vision of an all-vegan buffet, coupled with a DJ spinning nothing but Holly Near and Cris Williamson. Not that there's anything wrong with that. That environment just doesn't move me to dance. It moves me to leave and find a place with decent music.

Lab meeting time and Furry German is presenting. I should attend. *grumblesnarlbitch*

Last I heard it was due out in "early 2004." I haven't heard much else.

And yes, this TOTALLY redeems the Morrissey issue. :)

My other favorite singer is Nick Cave, and I first heard awesome Ms. Polly Jean Harvey with him on Murder Ballads. I also really liked her "Is This Desire?" CD since all of the songs seemed to be based on Flannery O'Connel stories. I really dig her, she's a beautiful gal with a gorgeous voice!!

Very very awesome. I particularly fell in love with Stories from the city, stories from the sea. It's such a wonderful album that I could listen to it constantly and not get tired. Love it.

Oh boy! The spring concert sounds like it might be right up my alley.

That environment just doesn't move me to dance. It moves me to leave and find a place with decent music.

Yep.

When I dance, I wanna shake my booty. Somehow I can't see our Board hiring a DJ that plays booty-shaking music.

No. I would envision a committee on the music the DJ must play. All of it will have to be decided by consensus.

Oh god, kill me now!

Maybe the middle-aged lesbians are all trippy and like some good dancing music with disco lighting and glo sticks. You never know. All-vegan? Well, at least there would be tofu. :)

while the dance idea scares me a bit as well...i do have to say that they mentioned that they really want to try to get both men and women, as well as maybe collaborate with the gay youth group...so maybe the music might be ok...they also brought up the idea of a caberet, which, truthfully, i'd rather do...but i think there are a lot of people actually into the idea of having this "prom" thing...especially since the center's main gathering place is just a gym. but i'm still skeptical of the whole thing. however, i couldn't think of any other ideas, so i guess i can't complain too much. once i think of something brilliant and wonderful that isn't a dance, i can complain. actually, no i can bring the idea up and convince everyone to go along with it. oh the power.

btw, the only decision that was made officially was that we would not hold a traditional full program concert for spring and would explore other ideas, which would allow us to collaborate with the Center and only prepare a small amount of music (this discussion took about an hour. lol).

Well, since the idea is to have men, women, and the GYA involved I'm not as scared. It might even be a cool event. Gay Prom is always popular, for good reason.

Cabaret? Who'd perform? Anyone? How would we work sound? Because as you mentioned, the Center's auditorium has the sound quality of a gymnasium.
