March 5, 2004 | NEW YORK (AP) -- "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang'' -- complete with flying car _ will land on Broadway next season.

A lavish stage version of the 1968 movie musical, which starred Dick Van Dyke and Sally Ann Howes, will open at the Ford Center for the Performing Arts April 28, 2005. Preview performances begin March 29, 2005.

The show has been a big success at London's Palladium, where it has been playing to capacity business for the last two years.

The musical, which has a score by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman, will be directed by Adrian Noble, former artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Casting for the New York production will begin shortly.

So how do they make the car fly? That sounds like fun :o)

They have a big hydraulic jack centre stage, which lifts the car up and forward

Do you ever watch Scrapheap Challenge? Do you get that in the states? Your version is maybe called Junkyard Wars, which isn't quite as good I don't think.

Anyways, it always amuses me when they have hydraulics in that. Because the teams always start like 'Whee! Hydraulics', and then 8 hours later, you can tell that they're never going to touch a hydraulic system ever again. :)

Yes, we have Junkyard Wars here. Fun.

I would never casually think, "hey, I'm going to whip together an hydraulic system." They are complicated as hell, a whole extra set of equations to figure out. No thanks. ;)

They have shown a couple of series of Junkyard wars over here. As well as the always fun international challenge things.

I always find it alittle bemusing that the American version felt the need to add in The Girl With The Unfeasibly Huge Boobies to the mixture though. Program about scrapheap and silly engineering, probably doesn't need a glamour model wearing a tight top all the time. But, what do I know.

[identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com 2004-03-08 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
But...but...they're boobies! They go with everything, and make the whole world better!

Yeah, y'see, I'm not so sure if the obviously fake ones make the world any better at all.

Oh, they're fakes? Aw never mind. *rapidly loses interest*

Can I ask a personal question? Have you ever had any first hand experiance of fake breasts?

I've always wondered what they feel like, because I just don't believe that they can possibly feel natural.

I have no personal experience with them, but they have to be much harder than the natural kind. That's a big turnoff for me.

ooo how exciting. it's always been my dream to reprise my 1st grade role in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang as the dog. it was a highlight of my performing career.

yeah thanks.

you're too kind.

Oh yes, I can see you with pigtails, bouncing around as the dog...

I want to go to NY and see the show! road trip?

Actually, with the price of gas, I think flying would be cheaper!

In a flying car, no less!

You know it. ;)
