Presently killing time before I have to go set up my next experiment. I'm doing a competitive audit and our stuff didn't look so good. I'm re-running the experiment in a different enzyme mix to see if the results are the same. Oy. This could be a seriously shitty couple of weeks, depending on what kind of data I get.

On Tuesday, I had lunch with some R&D people who are usually out of my sphere of interaction. From them I learned some very unsettling information about company actions, some very sketchy misuse of the outsourcing process and the INS. Oy. Checked around, and no there still aren't any jobs I'd apply for. So I'm here trying to be as positive as possible. It's getting harder, though.

In an effort to cultivate the patience needed to refrain from killing upper management, I've started meditating again. This needs to be a regular practice, so get on my case if I don't seem to be holding up my end. Deal?

In other news, Christmas lights are going up. While I'm not a big fan of the whole Christmas phenomenon, I confess that I love seeing pretty colored lights along the houses. It pleases me, a little bit of beauty in an unexpected place. :)

Time to go. Ciao kids.

Killing time? I recommend liberal application of thermite.

If that doesn't stop the clock, nothing will.

Oh, and how are we (and indeed middle management) supposed to discern meditating from sleeping at your desk?

Upper management. For fuck's sake, can I do nothing right today?

It's all that Scots Pine, I reckon. And the meditating happens at home, rather than at work. At work, I slack off with much posting to lj. See how it all works out?

That's it. Start small. Hell, I've already got you slacking at work, how long before you start putting up Christmas trees in October?

Can you do some funky experiments that involve making things go boom? And take pictures? Please?

I love Christmas lights!! It's all, or well it used to be, little mini stained glass; now they just dip them in some kind of plastic that comes off in a year or two.

Any preferences to colors? I like blue, and blue & green; and red & amber, red & green, red 7 blue, mixed is nice, so is white!

I don't like those big balloon things that blow up with a fan at night then look run over by a truck in the daytime!

Oh hush. I've always liked Christmas lights. And before I put up a Christmas tree in October, you'll have to get me to take down my Halloween decorations before January.

I like mixed, or all white. All white looks very peaceful and mixed is really festive.

I'm not a big fan of ginormous lawn decorations, either. It's too much.

Ah but you see, this is where creativity comes into play. Keep the Christmas Tree up all year round... just decorate it for each season!

Well, if I do that then it will have to incorporate Witchy Poo. Perhaps we can have her circling around the tree, with season-appropriate ornaments hung?

I dunno, this sounds like work.

and blinkers; the old style c7-nightlight bulbs, a string with a few blinkers

and of course you know there are class distinctions; white you are upwardly mobile or have visions of being so and if you display colors you are among the riff-raff.

Many things sound like work when they don't involve lying in bed. Life's like that, I've discovered.

Blinkers are great, but they have to be a nice slow blink not those racing disco lights. Those give me a headache.

and of course you know there are class distinctions

Never heard that. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if the rules were different in my neighborhood.

obviously not.
whatever you do, dont pick up a pair of scissors- especially if youve got any running planned in the near future.

ive been trying to convince my boss that me getting out of my pit constitutes work, so can i clock on as soon as i throw back the covers, instead of having to travel i dread to think how many miles on public transport to do it.

I've been trying to convince mine of the same thing. The silly woman protests that one can't do molecular biology in the kitchen. Little does she know!
