Okay, I have a secret. A deep, dark, painfully embarassing secret.

It's called daytime TV, and in general it sucks icky fuzzy under-the-couch-cushion things; the writing is shite and the acting is beyond OTT. Yet this summer, I found myself getting sucked into All My Children.

I blame Eden Reigel (that BITCH) for daring to have a shred of talent. It's her fault that I care in the slightest about daytime's one and only token lesbian character. When the writers gave her a decent story and more importantly a hot cast member to play opposite, I was hooked. I taped the shows and scurried home to get my fix of hot and heavy eyefucking, sauna-sharing, yoga-doing, lesbians. It was heady.

Then there was a change of writing staff; the couple broke up, the lesbian was raped, and the entire show has gone to hell in a handbasket. It's unwatchable. But here's the kicker: even though I don't watch the show anymore, I'm still into the fandom. Seriously, not a fan of the show, but a fan of the fandom.

Centered around AMC and ER, there exists one of the weirdest, loudest, most slavishly devoted groups of fans I've ever encountered, and they are All. About. AMC. And they aren't content to simply to fawn all over their show; they get downright worked up if anyone disagrees with them. It's like a soap opera around a soap opera. And though I'm ashamed to admit it, I'm hooked. I can't wait to see what they'll do next. I keep flipping back to their boards, just waiting for something new and bizarre to be posted, and I am never disappointed. It's like Jerry Springer mixed with the Real World. So very wrong.

AMC fans: my dirty little secret fandom.
