it's never too early for weekend plans

Would anyone like to go dancing this weekend? I'm up for anything, house, techno, hip-hop, industrial, goth, whatever just so long as I can dance my ass off all night.

I'm going to decorate for Halloween this weekend. Not sure if I'm just going to pick up simple stuff from Target et. al. or if I'll look for more interesting decorations. T and I had a great witch decoration made from natural materials; she had a great craggy look to her face, and her coarse dress draped perfectly over her broom. I wonder where we got her? Hmmm. Regardless, I want to decorate because for the first time in many years I live in a neighborhood with lots of children. I want them (and their parents) to know that my dwelling is a safe and welcoming spot for them to visit on Beggar's Night. Our front porch light doesn't work (faulty wiring in the fixture) so I figure some decorations and lights will compensate.

Have I mentioned how much I love this time of year? :D I think I'll do some kind of private ritual to mark the season, some meditation. The idea of thinking about loved ones who've passed is resonating with me. I'm missing Gertie lately; she was the kind of grownup who gave out full-size candybars to trick-or-treaters. Almond Joy and Mounds bars, those were her favorites.
I miss my Mamaw Lelah too, and Jamie, and Jenna. Man, I have a list.

Date: 2005-10-19 07:21 pm (UTC)I had decided to skip the holiday and do Chuck E Cheese with the kids, but after my enlightening encounter the other night, I changed my mind. So today I went out and spent entirely too much on costumes for the kids! LoKe is Batman (no surprise there) and Jiana-Peace is a faery princess (no surprise there either). I'm going to be a Radical Faery. I bought a pink t-shirt that I'm going to screen with the Food Not Bombs logo, black and pink stripey tights that I'm going to wear under Logan's cargo cut-offs that I live in, and I bought myself a purple wand and purple faery wings!! My porch light is also broken so I bought dragon fly faery lights to string along the top of the porch, and a light-up spider web for the window. I also bought boxes of raisins to hand out as there's no way I'm giving the kids any more candy, especially as the babies aren't allowed to eat it!!!
As to ritual. I still haven't decided what to do. Probably a private circle in my room, where I shield it really good to protect the babies, and just throw it open to anyone who wants to visit. People had suggested making Logan some food and leaving it out, but I'm not sure that's a good idea. I dunno, it seems to make him food that he can't eat is a bit like teasing. Maybe that's just me being overly sensitive, though!! Plus, I have a lot of people on the other side, I figure just throwing it open will be fair for all.

The interesting thing about living in the southwest is getting a little bit of exposure to Dia de los Muertos ceremonies. Putting out their favorite foods, liquor, cigars, anything they enjoyed in life is pretty common. But as with anything, it's all dependent on what you feel comfortable with. Throwing a window open to anyone is going to be interesting, you'll have to tell us what happens.
As for me, I will probably focus on honoring my loved ones. All of them, not just the ones who're more apt to pop in to visit. That could be... interesting.
