Rot in Hell, Ronald Reagan. You hateful stupid close-minded fuckwit, you drove this country into a debt we haven't recovered from, ignored the AIDS crisis, and cozied up to every bigoted evangelical "Christian" with a fat checkbook. I hated you then, I hate you now, and I'm glad you're dead you evil troll.

I have some sympathy for his family; I know from watching my grandmother deteriorate that Alzheimers is a horrible way to go but that is the extent of kindness I can summon. I just wish I still had the t-shirt I bought from Alternative Tentacles Records with the cartoon of Reagan saying "Let them eat jellybeans." Today I would wear it in joyful celebration.

Come on, now - tell us how you REALLY feel !! :-) Joebanks and I are in line behind ya, believe me. He doesn't even want the TV on this week so we don't subject the kids to all the reagan-worshipping that'll be going on. I've just never understood why some people say he'll go down as the greatest US president ever. Give me a break. I just remember my wonderful mom-in-law saying over and over during his terms, "For God's sake - HE'S AN ACTOR !!"

Wow, sounds like you'd like to go to the batting cages and hit a few balls with his face on them. :)

Yeah, I don't understand why some people think he was so great. Of COURSE he appeared very presidential, it was just another role.

*sigh* Stupid Reagan.

Oh most definitely. He was the No Fun president and a big butthead.

Nah, she's been dead for years. Taxidermy's an amazing thing nowadays.

I hear her guy is the same one who's kept Keith Richards going all these years.

If there was justice, then the evil scumsuckers would suddenly realise how terribly wrong they were, and come on tv to apologise sincerely for all of the lives they ruined.

But considering that will never happen, I'll settle for them dying. Because at least that helps to remind all of the other evil old bastards in power today that they are still mortal, and will still die too one day.

Did you see her being wheeled out to comment on Reagans death? Repulsive. Banging on about what a true hero the man was, on the same day as the D-Day rememberance. I wanted to slap the evil old bitch.

And yet, when she does die, I expect she'll be hailed as a saint.

...so they'd better hurry up and fuck up the world TODAY!

I'm feeling a bit cynical, can you tell?

It's hard not to be cynical anymore.

Just, y'know, try not to do what I do, and get hugely and terrifyingly depressed about the whole thing.

Naw, I'll go to the batting cage or meditate or something and it'll all seem manageable again. I suggest you tackle random strangers in the street.

Is it to late for me to play?

I've heard they may deface Mt. Rushmore. But more likely the name of the country will be changed. U.S. of R. with 50 Ronnie's in place of stars. Of course I shouldn't talk like this of someone who walked on water. Look for your local library or main drag to be renamed too.

But you know as well as I do that what we have now is a lot more dangerous. It's kind of like the cold war and how we thought everything could go in the blink of an eye. When really the status quo was almost safe. Now the planet is in more chaos than before.
Ronnie was a lot more benign then the currant administration. I'm not going soft here it's just the way it is.

And if you ever get in an argument with someone and they talk about how Ronnie ended the cold war and beat the U.S.S.R.; it was really the Pope, and I can prove it!

I think that was probably a one time only affair, the street thing.

A batting cage. Saw those on ER once. They look like quite a lot of fun. The closest I can manage to that is taking an axe or a sword, and going out and hacking the crap out of some logs.
From: [identity profile] biogeekgrrl.livejournal.com
I've heard that they want to put him on currency. As long as it's something large that I'll never see I don't mind. What a joke.

And I agree that the situation now is more dangerous, but I think Ronnie set the stage for a lot of what's currently happening.

The Pope? Do tell.

Similar process. Chopping wood is a good subsitution for going to a batting cage. Really, any activity that lets you expend a lot of physical energy hitting or striking an object while doing a task that's positive or beneficial is a great way to handle this kind of anger and stress.

Bad feelings ---> good outcome = okay in my book

There has been talk of having Ronnie on the $10 bill and the $20 bill. Oh, and someone wants him to replace Roosevelt on the dime. Whatever. I'm far too fed up w/ our current administration to bother getting worked up over Ronnie anymore. grrrrrrrrrr.

OK! I'm going to be real general because a lot of the dates are lost in the mists of my mind.
But basically: John Paul II the first Polish Pope is elected around 1980. The Poles were a very down trodden nation living bleak suppressed lives.
Not long after-a year or two?-Polish shipyard workers dare to form a trade union; Solidarity. This wasn't a coincidence. Anyone who watches baseball knows a team loosing a game can get a hit and suddenly get inspired and turn it all around and win.

Experts knew the Soviet Empire would eventually implode and U.S. policy was to help this along. Even though Russian tanks-or was it the Polish Army to prevent a Russian occupation? I don't remember.
Either way Solidarity was eventually crushed; but the shock waves of people power were not forgotten. Just like the American Revolution inspired the French Revolution, which changed Europe. These were the first tears in the iron curtain. Reagan was in the right place at the right time. It would have happened under someone's watch.

Simplistic? Maybe. But that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Makes as much sense as anything else. But I do agree, Reagan was in the right place at the right time. The Soviet Union was going to fall apart regardless of who was in the White House. Blah.

Um... I know this is fairly old, but... didn't the Soviet Union fall under Bush I? I mean, the Berlin Wall didn't come down until '89.

Anyway, I hope Reagan is in heaven because then I won't have to spend the afterlife in the same place as him.

Can I be a friend please? Your rants are most entertaining. They are often things I would say but for fear of deportation. And lack of talent.
