Stupid Doctor Show

LONDON - Alex Kingston (news) says she's being axed from "ER" for being too old.

The British actress, who plays Dr. Elizabeth Corday on the long-running medical drama, said she was recently told that after seven years on the show, her contract would not be renewed.

*snip*

Apparently TPTB are smoking the crack. Yippity skippity.

It's not just that, she was told she was too old for the show, and they wanted to clear the boards to get some younger sexier characters in.

She sounds deeply deeply pissed, from the tone of some of the remarks she's made. And quite rightly so.

Grrr.

To which I might add, at 41, Alex Kingston is quite the sexiest thing on the show. With the possible exception of Susan Lewis, before she started dating FAB.

Yep, I quite agree. Ah well, maybe she'll do some really cool projects now.

I saw her recently in a film on tv, where she was playing a South African gambler, who was trying to get the lead character tohelp her run some scam in a casino. But it really wasn't very good, and was noteably only for Alex Kingston's boobies.

Ah well. Cheers to her boobies, then.

Her character was just starting to get good again. :(

I think that the open secret is that they're not renewing her contract because they don't know what to do with the character, and haven't in several years.

And also? Grr.

Which is sad because she's a talented actress and Elizabeth Corday is a complex character.

[oink] now there's one less hot chick on prime time television [/oink]

That's true enough. This season she did what? Had an affair with two men at once, was the only female character to appear in her underwear, and... that was about it.

Double-grrr.

Oddly, this story made the lunchtime news today.

God forbid Dr. Corday have a sex life.

Also? Triple grrr.

It's not that she doesn't have a sex life. They had her sleep with just about everyone who spent a season on the show. If there is no-one left to sleep with, they don't have any use for her.

I saw her do "Moll Flanders" on PBS some years back. she's good and sexy.

If there is no-one left to sleep with, they don't have any use for her.

And it's sad that that was all the writers could think of for her character, but that's another post.

I still honestly don't understand why tv executives don't find more mature women sexy. Dr Corday was by all reasonable standards, very attractive. I kinda half suspect that tv execs must all have things for young teenaged girls, and want to cast as many as they can so that they can make the best use out of their casting couches. And older, more secure women, scare the shit out of them.

I don't understand this, the "logic" of what television viewers want to see versus what so many people say they like to see.

I think they must be relying on focus groups, that they believe to be representative, but are actually heavily skewed towards, well, towards the thick-as-shit end of the spectrum.

Yes, "let's not lose viewership by going over people's heads or expecting too much of them. Let's find the stupidest inbred morons on the planet to be our focus group."

Grrrrr arrrrgh.
