Okay, some random babbling about Dead Like Me and Carnivale.

First, Dead Like Me. I love this show more and more each week. I forgive them the filler clip show from last week and will fanwank it as an interim fix during staff changes. This week we had more good George and Rube interaction, Daisy and Mason each becoming more three dimensional, Roxy bonding with Crystal of all people, and a Lass family vacation that made me cry like a baby. Poor Reggie has been wanting to tell her mom that she misses George for so long, but her mom hasn't been ready to listen. She still wants to avoid it and change the subject, but there George was, a physical presence on the dock, forcing them to face up to the fact that she's dead. What a relief for Reggie; what a relief for Joy, getting to truly bond with her daughter. Wow.

I have a suspicion that George is being groomed for a supervisory position. The more she and Rube work together, the more I suspect that's the case. The two of them share an objective appreciation for life that the other reapers don't, as if they acutely feel what they're missing and want to be around it even if they can't take part. Plus George has those kickass data management skills she picked up from Happy Time. ;)

Does anyone else think the new waitress at Der Waffle Haus isn't just a waitress? She seems to know stuff. I think she may be upper management keeping an eye on the reapers. We'll see.

Next, Carnivale. I'm trying to like this show. But the second episode is even more forcibly mysterious and vague than the first. We don't even get to spend a lot of time with the same characters from last week; we've moved on to new circus freaks to get vague impressions of. [livejournal.com profile] wafflelips really digs it (she's very visual) but I don't think I can get into it. I like the visual stuff only if there's some solid plot or characterization. This is frustrating me.

I taped Las Vegas last night, haven't watched it yet. I can't help it, Josh Duhamel is in it and he was the best thing about AMC for a while. Now he has a prime time show (with James Caan, fast cars, and hot women no less!) so I have to give it a shot.

I agree with your thoughts on both DLM and Carnivale. Unfortunately, I shamefully skipped out on DLM to watch Firefly on Monday so I have only seen the 2nd ep. Carnivale? You basically summed up my thoughts exactly. I intended to watch it last night to see if I could get more out of it, but my bf was being all menstrually or something so I avoided the living room. I see though that my confusion prolly wouldn't have improved by watching it again.

DLM started well, wobbled with some cast and crew changes, and has since really picked up. It's gelling nicely with strong performances from the vets and newbies alike.

In the case of Carnivale, I think they're setting up some grand giant intricate Plot from Hell, meaning only bits and pieces of information for a while. Some folks have more patience for that than I do. (waves to [livejournal.com profile] wafflelips)

I really enjoyed the last few eps of DLM. I'm looking forward to tonights ep.

Carnivale--I really don't think that it'll be a show with a lot of character development. Yes, we'll get is little bits and pieces along the way, and our heads we'll get messed with and it'll all be great fun. Well, if you like that sort of thing and if it's done well. So far it's been good...so I'll stick with it for now.
