My journal is called Crackbaby Corner because my news/updates/rants section on my old webpage was called that. In it you'd find me ranting and wailing like a crackbaby. Apt, no?

My subtitle is coherence is optional because it is. Post away, froth and foam, don't worry if you're making sense. We'll figure out what you mean together.

My friends page is called Other people on crack because I like to read other people's rants and raves. I'd rather forgive a friend's passionate outburst than the stultifying dullness of someone who's trying to be polite.

My username is biogeekgrrl because it's accurate: I'm a biologist, an unrepentant geek, and a kick-ass grrl. Best recognize.

My default userpic changes frequently, but currently is Gracie Allen. She was a freaking comic genius and I adore her delivery. Perhaps in the future I'll make a Madeline Kahn icon.

I think what you needed was not so much a toning down as a reality check, if that makes sense. Sort of ok is this worth getting worked up about? That's all.

The other night at work I was thinking (you know-a million miles away) What makes a geek? Is it the glasses, is it intellect or the enthusiastic pursuit of the subject, and must the subject be science?

This prompted later a private post/discussion with myself about what my category in life is; geek, freak, etc. A project I have already been working on. So thanks for the unintentional input!

I think geekiness is a wholehearted enthusiastic pursuit of any subject, be it tools or cooking or biology. Alton Brown is a cooking geek; Norm Abrams is a tool geek.

Sometime back I know I had a supremely geek moment. I had two data bases online. One a turn of the century fire insurance with schematics of every building in Cleveland in 1900, the other a panoramic map drawn about the same time. Flipping back and forth between the two, with a contemporary street atlas in my lap; I found a drawing of the house an ancestor lived in in 1903!
