Dec. 3, 2004 | WASHINGTON (AP) -- Senate Republicans are preparing to bring out the heavy weapons against the filibuster, a Senate tradition that has its linguistic origins in the pirates who once captured ships and held their crews for ransom.

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., says "tyranny by the minority'' must end and he will do whatever it takes. That includes what some call the ``nuclear option'' to stop Democrats from using the filibuster to block President Bush's judicial nominees.

Dec. 3, 2004 | WASHINGTON (AP) -- Evidence gained by torture can be used by the U.S. military in deciding whether to imprison a foreigner indefinitely at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, as an enemy combatant, the government concedes.

Statements produced under torture have been inadmissible in U.S. courts for about 70 years. But the U.S. military panels reviewing the detention of 550 foreigners as enemy combatants at the U.S. naval base in Cuba are allowed to use such evidence, Principal Deputy Associate Attorney General Brian Boyle acknowledged at a U.S. District Court hearing Thursday.

This is just more right wing hubris and short sightedness. They truely believe they will be in power forever and that these things won't someday be used against them (like term limits) Let them hang themselves.

The torture issue will come back to bite us all someday, it only recruits more eniemes. Doesn't anyone think that any captured U.S. citizen will suffer more?

If we win this long drawn out struggle; and by winning I mean achieve peace; what will we have gained if we have lost whatever "morality" we have left.

And if we loose and maybe someday face international war crimes trials or just encourage more attacks, more hatred then what. Old dubya and those retired genrals will not be the people dying in some desert or on our streets

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist, R-Tenn., says "tyranny by the minority'' must end and he will do whatever it takes.

On of the Federalist Papers (#10?) warned against the tyrrany of the majority in democratic systems, and the need of a republic to support and protect the minority in order to safeguard liberty and justice. Or do the Republicans only care about the views of the consitutional framers when it's convenient. Oh, wait separation of church and state, freedom of speech. Yeah, they do.

They're just irritated cos they can't string together enough coherent words to do it themselves.
