The sun is shining today, which fills me with more relief than I can describe. It's still chilly but now it's manageable. And apparently I'm not the only San Diego resident who feels that way; on the train this morning I saw a mule deer and a couple Great Blue Herons out enjoying the morning. That was nifty.

And I've confirmed that the bunnies who live at the train station are in fact Brush Rabbits (Sylvilagus bachmani)1. Althought they haven't been around much with all the rain; instead, they've been bumped by a bunch of arroyo toads. Makes for an pleasant evening, with that frog chorus serenade at the station.

1. Yes, I researched the various types of wildlife in San Diego, double checked appearances, habitat, and behavior until I could confidently make a conclusion. Yes, this was fun for me. *nyah*

The sun is out, there's bunnies and frogs at the train station, and deer and herons running around? I don't even know what a heron is! What kind of quasi-universe do you live in? And where do I get my tickets?

Our train stations just smell like pee.... =(

Because I'm a fricken' nerd, follow the link (http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/id/framlst/i1940id.html) to learn what a heron is. Heh. The train station up by work was built on a salt marsh, and the builders tried not to disturb the habitat too much. So you see things like sea birds, brush rabbits, and toads hanging out all the time.

The train station near home is a totally different story, and it often smells like pee. O.o

Hurray for learning something new. I like the idea of a lil wildlife preserve train station. Better than an Indian Burial Ground train station at least o.O

So this www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov is pretty much your homepage eh?

Dude, that sounds like a Buffy episode. O.o

And as for my homepage, well this (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/) is really my homepage. That and Google Scholar. -_~

I remember seeing the muledeer hanging out when we were at the Grand Canyon; maybe because they were semi tame by the lodge, they seemed a different personality then the eastern? deer we have around here.

I love the Great Blue Heron, large birds, ever hear one "grawk"? It's like what you'd imagine a dinosaur would sound like.

Maybe the mule deer there were more accustomed to people; these are quite skittish around humans, so it's a neat thing to see one. And I see the sea birds when I'm on the train -- there's one great spot heading toward Torrey Pines that's a huge salt marsh filled with sea fowl-- that's where I see them. Those big ol' blue wings are pretty damned impressive.
