Oh, Mom

My mom is silly. The other night she called to anxiously ask whether we're near any of the mudslides. "Mom, all of Southern California is experiencing mudslides. But where we live isn't experiencing extreme mudslides." She said that she really wanted to tell us to "get on a plane and come home!" Which response is the best choice:

Response a) "Leave rainy and muddy weather to go to Ohio, where you're reeling from the worst snow storm to hit in ~25 years?"

Response b) "Um Mom, I am home."

Response c) "Mom, we're okay. I'd let you know if there was something to worry about. Besides, I had these really smart parents who taught me to have a level head and keep myself out of trouble."

I chose C. It seemed to work. Not that Mom is any less anxious (I think that's impossible for her, anxiety is her standard operating state) but it relieved her a bit.

I pick B. Not that it carries much relevance regarding the mudslide issue, but it's important to clear that bit up. Cutting the cord can be a positive thing (and keep you out of Ohio snowtorms).

A. is kind of "I told you so", which is reserved for moms whether we like it or not.

I think C. is far too diplomatic when dealing with parents, but hey, whatever works ;)

You'd think that B would be obvious, since I moved out of their house 16 years ago. You'd think.

C is probably too diplomatic, but I reserve my big guns for important topics. For example, if Mom or Dad are being stubborn about their healthcare (they're both in their 70s) then I want them to listen to my opinion. That means I can't shoot my wad on the (relatively) small stuff. ;)

Oh, C of course-you want to stay in the will, right?

Snow is gone, now we have flooding.

can you get a tsunami out there? better check with your folks.

1. What will??

2. Seems like it's pretty much the same there are here. So no big benefit either way.

3. I'm sure Mom would say yes! ;)

Ah, C would be the nicely "diplomatic" (aka functionally manipulative without actually being evil) answer. :)

Personally, if I was still speaking to a parental unit of mine, I'd go for C but truncate out the bit about how great they are because I'm not sure I could pull it off convincingly. ;)

Well yes, functionally manipulative without actually being evil is sort of my MO. I only use my powers for good, I swear! ;)

The thing is, no matter how old I am or how many years I've lived on my own, I'm the baby. Mom is always going to behave this way, I just have to tactfully re-direct her.

How *deliciously* noble.

;D

I mean...yes, of course I believe you, dear. Speaking of being wholesome and good, how are the bunny-of-doom experiments going?

Probably wise, yes. But if you're the baby, does that mean the rest of us should be coochie-cooing you and tickling your tummy just to watch how cute you are when your limbs wiggle? Or would that interrupt the experiments? ;)

Bunny of Doom experiments are coming along nicely. We have successfully bred the first Ninja Stealth Bunny; more data is forthcoming.

Um. No. O.o

You are, I hope, training them that they should all attack at once, not one at a time like foolish movie ninjas?

Well, once we have more than one we will. We've got the life-size Jackie Chan cutout and everything.

Coooooool.

Are you gonna give 'em little speciality shuriken sized for their paws, or just train 'em to use normal sized ones?

I am having a South Park flashback where the boys were playing Ninja. Didja see that one? :) LOL

Um, they're gonna be Giant Mutant Attack Bunnies, so they'll have specially-made ginormous shuriken. Heh.

You are far better at reducing Mommy Worriness than I am. Good show.
