WASHINGTON, Jan. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- The US search for Iraq's alleged weapons of mass destruction (WMD) was over, White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Wednesday.

The Iraq Survey Group (ISG ), consisting of some 1,200 military and intelligence specialists and support staff, spent nearly two years in Iraq searching for the banned weapons that the Bush administration cited to justify the Iraq war, but failed to find any of such weapons.

And this was the ISG that was set up by the Americans, of their own people, when they decided they didn't like that other survey group the UN had which kept telling them there weren't any WMD programs in Iraq anymore.

Mind you. It doesn't matter anymore of course. We won already.

Gah. I just lost my reply to this comment, and it was an oddly poetic reply too. Oh well. The gist was:

When the history books come to record the downfall of western democracy, they will probably blame the horribly short memories of the citizens.

yep. When I heard this on NPR this morning I wanted to just shake the shrub (and all those who voted for him). And of course, now people will treat it like it's not a big deal, what's done is done. Not like HE LIED or anything!

Oh no, not like his entire justification for war HAS JUST BEEN PROVEN FALSE.

They will never admit that it was all bullshit. In fact they will probably point to this as proof that the WMDs were moved to Iran.

Is there really a point to saying it to people who damn well knew it and were just using it as an excuse anyway?

True. But saying it prevents them from sweeping it under the rug. This is crucial right now.
