"Film critics said I gave a voice to the fear we all have," she said in 2003, "that we'll reach a certain point in our lives, look around and realise that all the things we said we'd do and become will never come to be - and that we're ordinary."

She's also well-remembered for The Miracle Worker; I have to confess that one of my favorite performances was in Great Expectations. She was so creepy and unsettling in the role.
