Another pleasant surprise

That surprise being Blue Crush--and before I hear any guffaws or wisecracks, let me explain that it was rented solely for the joy of watching cute girls in bikinis for an hour or so. The pleasant surprise came from the underwater and surfing footage. It's phenomenal, but not simply for a how cool is that action sequence way. The footage of the girls in the pipeline, or getting held under the waves has the kind of real emotional impact that moves the narrative along, instead of simply punctuating it. Afterwards, the Girl turned to me and said that if they'd cut some of the dialog and let the actors just react to the ocean a little more, it could almost have been an arty film. At any rate, it's good fun.
