Last night I started learning how to use one of these:



I am a little stiff today but I don't care. I got to hit people with a sword yesterday, and it was good.

Renaissance-era fighting is probably more fun. Being a kendoka is a bit more meditative.

Watching western swordplay is something you can cheer on and watch play back and forth. Kendo is more about watching to people stand still until somebody twitches and then it's all done.

Yeah, this was much more "grrrr arrrrgh" kind of fighting. Lots and lots of fun. I have so much to learn, so much muscle memory to build up.

I briefly fenced sabre, and sometimes think of trying to find a way to pick it up again. It was fun, but definitely takes lots of practice....
