what's up with AIDS walk?
Oct. 3rd, 2005 01:02 pmMaybe my perception was skewed, but AIDS walk seemed much smaller this year than it's been in previous years. The crowd volume coming back on the shuttle buses was a lot lower than it's been in previous years; we only sent back one full busload of people. There were a few buses with 30-40 passengers but never a time with more than a dozen passengers waiting in line. Weird.
It was still wonderful, I was still moved by walkers decked out in handmade "In Memoriam" shirts, the number of families who walk. But I was also terribly upset by the staff members of a nearby clinic who were more upset by the inconvenience of not being able to access the driveway to their parking lot than they were by the fact that there's no cure for AIDS. I would expect a business person to come out and yell because the street was blocked off, or even a lawyer, but for a doctor to come out (with his damned exam gloves on, he's lucky I didn't call OSHA on his ass) and rail at me because "I have patients" really pushed my buttons. Oh well, plenty of MDs are self-absorbed pricks.

In other news, I got to spend some time with friends who I haven't seen in a few weeks. I also went on a coffee date with The Girl and filled in a horrid gap in her movie education by making her watch Moonstruck with me. And I even squeezed in about 45 minutes of surfing. Not a bad weekend.
