one benefit of being stuck inside: catching up on movie watching. we watched matrix: reloaded finally. it is very much a "middle part" but fun and with so so many pretty pretty people in it. (gina torres, grrr!)
also watched it's not as scathingly funny as the other guest movies, but it certainly tried to be. jane lynch and john michael montgomery gave standout supporting performances, and jennifer coolidge got perhaps the funniest line of the movie. but eugene levy and catherine o'hara gave such nuanced performances that i really had to switch gears to get back to the gleeful skewering of the folk genre. they teetered on the brink of satire, but generally stayed on the side of sincere characterization. their last duet made me cry, even. (i know, i'm a total sap.)
all in all thumbs up, but best in show remains guest's funniest movie.

Date: 2003-10-28 06:58 am (UTC)i know what you mean about going stir crazy. we've watched movies, reruns of angel, x-files, and charmed. my mom has called repeatedly to check on us; she advised cards and/or board games. yesterday evening we baked cookies for something to do, and also for the having of cookies.
we watched frida a while ago; let me know what you think.
