My flist is broken

mosca has posted Chasing Amy slash fic. Obviously she has done so because she is wrong and broken and full of juicy evil creative genius.
I owe you a fruity mixed drink, complete with a decorative paper umbrella.
scrump who is the brokenest of all the broken, posted about the Lovemakers. And I listened. And now I want to use an entire canister of Aqua Net on my hair and wear granny boots with lacy socks and listen to all my old Berlin and Missing Persons albums and dance like I have imbibed five pounds of coc -- POWDERED SUGAR-- off the piano.- Who was discussing the use of dialect/idiolect in the Firefly 'verse a while back? Someone was discussing how the unique dialect that Whedon created gave him freedom to explore dialog and character in ways that "conventional" English would not have. It occurred to me this morning that he was probably trying to do something similar with the peculiar slang of Buffy, but was limited by the setting and scope of that universe. Is language his true kink, or just tiny girls who are much stronger than they appear?
- I found a nearly new 9'0 Iron Cross longboard shaped by Dave Murphy listed for $160 on ebay. And I bid on it. Because I too am sad and strange and weird and broken and the notion of gliding along a sweet swell on a big daddy longboard turns my crank.
I prolly won't win the bid. No sweat. - This post is brought to you by the letter Q and the number 7 and the lyrics to GOD.FEAR.MONEY. by Meshell N'degeocello.
I was way down for the revolution
Until I found out
It was contingent on some
Corporate sponsorship
And if Jesus was alive today
He'd be incarcerated
With the rest of the brothers
While uh
The devil would have a great apartment
On the upper east side
Be a guest V.J.

Joss is definitely kinked for languages, although he's conscious of that kink in a different way than he's conscious of his character kinks. And I think the language is much more successful as an idiolect in Firefly: it's more complete and more consistent, and it doesn't have the baggage of sounding wrong to a Valley Girl.
Glad you liked the Chasing Amy fic, too!

Date: 2005-11-01 03:35 pm (UTC)This may require careful reviewing of S1 of Buffy, but that will have to wait for a week in which I don't have a final due on Friday.
