Yesterday I did something I hadn't done in a very long time.

I blew George.

It's been a long time and I'm really rusty; but it's the sort of thing that you never completely forget how to do. And it really is enjoyable.

****

OK there are maybe two of you out there who actually know what I'm talking about, as opposed to some of you who think you know what I'm talking about. So, to clarify, George = my trumpet. Yesterday I practiced my horn for the first time in many years -- maybe even since grad school. I got out Arban-Prescott and did the first 10 etudes. Man, I have no range! My wind is good though; funny what quitting smoking and getting serious about singing will do for your lungs. Huh.

But. Super fun. I brought George with me and plan on taking time at lunch to get in a little playing. Hee, music, whee!

Ha! I knew you meant an instrument, although I thought it was something bigger than a trumpet. Didn't you play another kind of horn in high school band?

*and this, coming from someone who graduated eons ahead of you. ;-)*

*lol* You got me! I mostly played trumpet in school, although I played flugelhorn too. The smaller horns are easier to carry! ;)

I remember when you and Geli (and a few other young ladies) were spending the night at Mom and Dad's, and Hogan's Heroes came on. You were singing one of the lower horn parts to the theme music, so I figured you'd either been working on that in band or played one of the larger horns.

Weird, the things that stick in our minds...

Oh yeah! The tricky thing about being an alto and playing trumpet is that your ranges don't always overlap. I can play a *lot* higher than I can sing! ;)

One of these days I'll pick up a new flute and terrorize you all. Unfortunately my flute isn't playable. :(

Oh sad. Is it worth it to take it to the instrument shop on University for an estimate on repairs?

no, the pads under the keys are hosed and it's only a student model anyway. i should probably freecycle it. when i have some extra money (new board? *cough* what new board?) i would like to pick up a used flute that's a step up from my old one.

Yeah I dig. It's sort of not worth it to replace all the pads on a student horn. One day (one day) I'm going to buy a new/used trumpet, sort of an intermediate model. They play so much nicer than the beginners' instruments.

I took him out to the shore yesterday afternoon to practice. So nice! Ah, he's a good ol' horn!
