1.
wafflelips made this userpic for me. Ain't she sweet? It's the cover art from Charles De Lint's Memory and Dream, one of my favorite books.
2. I may be heading into a recording studio tomorrow morning to do a voice-over for a training video. It's last minute and they need someone a) with a decent voice who can b) pronounce the scientific terms. It's in my neighborhood, and that's convenient, but it's around the same time as our team monthly meeting, and that's not convenient.
Hrrm.
3. I need to go to a show and hear loud raucous rock music.
4. I think I'll make a list of some favorite song lyrics. What are some of yours?

4. Wow, I was thinking about this yesterday. You must have been reading my mind!
The Clash--Know Your Rights
Cowboy Junkies--A Common Disaster
Part of the lyrics:
I found myself a friend,
but he's crooked as a stick in water
So now I'm writing fairy tales
to catch the spirit of revenge
He's got a plan to steal my little sister,
but I'm not too concerned
'cause I will get him in the end
I have to say pretty much anything by the Cowboy Junkies, really. Their lyrics are really cool.

4. I love the "crooked as a stick in water" line. A Sleater-Kinney song came on as I was writing the entry (Oh!) and I love these lines:
Nobody lingers like
your hand on my heart and
Nobody figures like
you figure me out
I think that song is what's making me want to see a loud raucous rock show. I can't help wanting to bounce up and down when I hear it.

Date: 2003-11-10 03:19 pm (UTC)from "Minerva" by the Deftones
When she sings it's over
Such a strange numb
And it brings my knees to the earth
It's a very Chico-esque fragmented lyric, but the image of being so moved by a singer that you simply want to fall to your knees is a powerful one. It conjures in my mind the notion of music being able to transcend all barriers and connect us on a deep visceral level.

Date: 2003-11-11 07:07 am (UTC)Lyrics? These come to mind immediately. Though I'm sure there are more:
"I'd start a revolution
If I could get up in the morning..."

More lyrics, this time from Ani DiFranco:
In the back room there's a lamp that hangs over the pool table
When the fan is on it swings gently side to side
There's a changing constellation of balls as we are playing
I see Orion and say nothing
The only thing I can think of saying is
Fuck you and your untouchable face

Date: 2003-11-11 04:31 pm (UTC)Cowboy Junkies, "Miles from Our Home"
No one in sight for fifty miles,
sleeping fields sigh as I glide across their spines
If I could just reach the crest of that hill
this whole day will tumble and out the night will spill
The sky is still as a spinning top,
shooting stars drop like burning words from above
If I could just connect all these dots,
the truth would tumble like a Cynic vexed by love
