It's a science thing wherein members of a research group regularly meet to discuss current journal articles. Typically one person presents an article and the group discusses it.

Technically, yes. It's a practice that has its dubious origins in the academic world. I consider it to primarily be a method by which faculty can force their grad students to read papers, and have a handy forum in which to attack those peers who disagree with their pet theories.
