I could have such geeked-out-blissful love for this show. People of color! Interesting female characters! Neato spiffy abilities with sci-babble explanations! Comic book references!
Yes! I've seen the pilot, it looks good, I hope they don't fu*k it up. I like the Japanese fanboy who desperately wants powers! Even funnier that he's not a teenage boy but an adult exec.
i like him too. i also loove the fact that the character (and all characters in the japan scenes) actually talk in japanese and there are just subtitles. so many shows would have make it clear the characters were in japan by scenery, but had the characters talk in english maybe with an accent. i don't know why i like that so much.
it is a cool show and it'll be intersting to see where they take it.
And his science learnin' that comes from an X-men issue from the Chris Clairemont era cracked me up (and would be particularly nerdy for a kid to choose a US superhero comic over a mainstream Manga title....)
It's only the first show but I do like it. It bounced around a lot in terms of plot, but they tried very hard to give you a sense of who all the characters are and what their abilities will be. It was a little jumbled together but I definitely rec it.
I enjoyed it, too. A little disjointed, and some of the timelines don't match up, but I liked it. The Lost-ish overlapping lives and moments are good, the comic-book-ish title sequence was great, and some of the surprises are good. I liked the fact that super-cheerleader is properly horrified by the implications of her powers, and that Hiro is utterly clueless as to the implications of his-- focusing instead on how kewl it is to actually be a super-Hiro. And, of course, it amuses me that the whole group is convening on New York, the mecca (as all Marvel readers know) of superheroes. Of course, Ali Larter's powers seem the least... well, heroic... in their implications, but I'm willing to run with the show.
They were obviously trying to do a whole lot of setup in the first show and occasionally got in their own way. But I'll give them a pass on it.
Super cheerleader is my favorite character so far. I like Hiro too, if only for the fact that he's so naive in his worldview. "A superhero never uses his power for personal gain." It's sweet, even though you know he's going to be put through the ringer.
C's comment on Ali Larter's big scene was "man, she's going to have to get a handle on that!" Which, yeah. Same for druggie artist guy. I like that the emergent powers are messing with their lives. It's very Marvel-esque.
And of course they're going to Gotham-- er, New York. :D
I actually want to see what Ali Larter's powers really are, and whether they are what they seem to be.
I like the brothers and their story arc so far, too.
The disparate power-levels of the characters (Hiro's potential, for instance, is scary; the artist and the nurse, however, seem key to the plot but minor in their power levels) is rather interesting, and a good way to keep it from seeming too Smallville. We still have a couple of heroes and the Big Bad to meet, and I see potential for a completely different story arc developing after the end of Season 1, which is nice.
Looks like I'll have to program the upstairs Mac to record Heroes this season. Lost, too, since we're still going through Season 1 and 2 episodes and won't catch up before season 3 starts....
