so let me get this straight - the protestant and other churches are not actually churches but eccelsial communities, because they do not share apostolic succession - the other catholic churches (the so-called "orthodoxes" - the greek, russian, and egyptian coptic) share apostolic succesion, but dont recognise the roman pope, so isnt a true church. strange, the others have possibly more of a claim to be direct line of succesion from the early christian church, especially the coptic church - and IIRC, they also have their own popes as well - so they could make the same claims about the romans.
No, you're absolutely right. I think the Coptic Church has a particularly strong argument against the RCC. But oh, isn't a laugh to watch them shake their fists at each other?
I don't understand why other christian groups would get angry at this? I mean isn't it taken for granted that all of these thousands christian splinter groups think that theirs is the one true way and the others are all wrong?
Um, maybe? I don't know, in the Protestant Church I was raised in, there was an attitude of tolerance for other Protestant denominations. Most of them only differed in terms of ritual; the basic tenets were much the same. There was a huge unspoken mistrust of the RCC, and a bit of disdain for the pomp and circumstance.
It's just, you know, way to build relationships and de-escalate religious tensions, Benny.
I love this stuff. It's as if every so often they remember that they're CATHOLICS and everyone gets all shocked because they were being so cute and inclusive! Only they weren't! It was a MISTAKE!
