when it's 45C outside, you stay in the AC

virginmartyr1 and I saw two this weekend, which is more than we've seen in months.
First we watched Blades of Glory Sunday at our friends' house. It was exactly the kind of dumb fun I expected from Will Ferrell. Lots of flamboyant costumes, ridiculous choreography, gratuitous cameos by famous figure skaters made it a fun waste of time. However, it's Nick Swardson's role as a stalker fanatic that makes the movie more than a waste of time. It's wrong, broken and very funny.
Yesterday we caught Stardust at the cinema. So.Worth.Seeing. Let's face it, the screenplay isn't going to win any awards for originality. That's not the point. This is a good old fashioned classic fairy tale. There are truly grotesque and horrifying villains, captivating heroes, romance, prince/ss-with-mistaken-identies and flat-out fun. The movie is gorgeous, with a lush realistic feel. The leads are affable and charismatic. All the big name actors look like they're having a marvelous time with their parts. The Greek chorus provided by the deceased princes was a fantastic touch; I love that they cheered and winced at exactly the same time that we in the audience did.
I told C that I wanted to catch it while it was still in the theaters. We're both glad that we did. :)
