*Ahem* Elros and his brother Elrond are half elves given the choice of which life they would lead. Elrond chose the elven kind and thus their life of immortality and became the greatest of the lore masters and lalala. Elros chose the way of man and, though his life was long, he was still mortal. Numenor was a great kingdom until greed got in the way as usual. When LOTR begins, there are few left of their kind. Aragorn is one of them - a direct descendent of Elros - and he is 87 years old.
