Let me start off by saying that, as long as bio's around, there's no need to pry any albums from my hands. "I don't think I can give this up!" "Okay honey!" (she's a music ho)

Nah, we just need to let you borry some cd's. You can test drive them, see if some of the music is too "Grr arrgh" for you. You know how I like my "grrr arrrgh" music.

And so you know, some of these albums are on cassette tape because, although the tape is worn out, I am unwilling to part with them until I have a cd replacement in my grubby little hands. Seriously.

Yesiree bob. Especially since I am embracing my something-other-than blues/country/old-school r&b side lately.

I totally agree with any album with the lovely Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong. I would have them on my list. Don't own a lot of the albums you guys mentioned--wouldn't mind listening to them sometime.

I'm meaning to burn you a copy of that Best of Ella and Louis. It's really good stuff.

Of course, I may not get it to you until we're in Toronto this summer... ;)

[livejournal.com profile] biogeekgrrl, I'd be a little worried if you did get it to me sooner. I'd think there was something wrong with you...

I'm looking forward to my new CD in the summer. Sweet. Nothing is better than those two together. It's my dream duo. Well, it's not really a dream since they were actually a duo, but if they weren't, it'd be my dream duo. I guess they're just my favourite duo. Yep.

They perform so well together. Their duets are a delight, really.

Ol' Satchel-mouth is a brilliant arranger and horn player, so I love his work in general. But his ability to work with a song is pretty damned good, especially since he comes to it with a sense of fun and adventurousness, and tries to do with his none-too-agile voice what he would do with his horn.

He shouldn't keep up with Ella, but he does. Amazing.

Plus, his gravelly, visceral voice echoes the Best.Bluesman.Ever, Howlin' Wolf somewhere in my head, which is a plus.

He was such a fearless and inventive musician in general. He really works Ella and makes her keep up with him. You can tell that she has a blast doing it, too.

I love Ella's version of Mack the Knife where she does an imitation of Louis. I think that version is so much fun. "What are the words to this here chorus? This is the one I don't know..." <-- something like that. I just love it because it was spontaneous and she didn't know all of the lyrics.

She was famous for her imitation of Louis, I believe. There's a recording I've heard of I Can't Give You Anything But Love where she takes a couple turns through the chorus imitating different musicians. The last time she imitated Louis and you can hear the house roaring with applause.

If I had a time machine, I'd go back and see her perform in concert. *sigh*
