Poll Answers:
1. I played the female lead in my high school's production of Harvey
TRUE. I was Veta Louise Simmons in my junior year. It was a delightful experience. The play is hilarious and I had a great time with some of the physical humor. Loved it.
2. I've studied voice since I was six
TRUE. Everyone in my family sings, and I informed my mother that I wanted to as well.
3. After I graduated college, I traveled to Europe and visited relatives
FALSE on both counts. Never been to Europe and my entire family lives in North America. However,
wafflelips and I want to travel to Europe and visit her family. (they're in Scotland)
4. I receive Christmas cards from the Rockefellers
TRUE. In 1977 my evil Grandma took me to visit the state capitol in Charleston, WV. (She didn't believe in fun, only in education.) We toured the building, chatting with people as we went. The Secretary of State was a very nice man. He showed me the State Seal and explained as much civics as a precocious seven-year-old could understand. Then he sent us back to the Governor's office.
Then-Governor Jay Rockefeller was unable to meet with me, but I spoke with his secretary for a while. She assured me that he'd be disappointed and asked if she could have my address so that he could get back to me. I rattled it off with great pride, having memorized it for school. A week later, I received a letter "from the governor" expressing his sadness at being unable to meet with me. The letter said that he was happy that young people were interested in government and that he would add me to their Christmas card list.
I've received a card from him every year since. I've even been invited to every one of his inagural balls.
5. In grad school, I broke the monotony of my studies by playing horn in an R&B band.
TRUE. One of my fellow students organized it and we used to practice at her house on the weekends. We played student parties, that sort of thing. Mostly Motown but with few other songs mixed in. It was great fun and a nice way to recharge on the weekend.
