I will be traveling on March 2nd, the day of California's primary election. I forgot that fact until yesterday, at which point it was too late to register for an absentee ballot. I am a sad nonvoting crackmonkey.

To [livejournal.com profile] king_ghidorah, [livejournal.com profile] gonzo21 and [livejournal.com profile] woe2you: boys, the ongoing discussion of comic horror movies astounds me. It frightens me a little, too. I've seen the Evil Dead series and Ginger Snaps; that's pretty much it. Y'all have a depth of knowledge of the genre that's just creepy. They seemed like such nice fellows... except for that Chris; he was a right bastard.

[livejournal.com profile] wafflelips has taken to referring to [livejournal.com profile] woe2you as "mister woe2you." As in, "Did you see what that mister woe2you posted today? What kind of crack is he smoking?" It amuses me, and I expect it will amuse him too. There, now I'm the Entertainment.

Boy, that does sound dodgy, doesn't it?

I guess my much-dimmed love of bad films is a bit creepy. My 20s were a period where my insomnia and my love of bad movies combined into a deep exploration of that high art, the Bad Horror Film. True dreck is the rule in Bad Horror Films, but a handful of films and directors do stand out. And it surprises me how many have gone on to bigger and better things. Some never realized their early potential but still became successful (Carpenter, Hooper, Craven, Romero). Others had success-- both artistically and career-wise that was much greater than I ever thought (Cronenberg, Raimi, Jackson). And others are beloved by horror fans, but remain as obscure as they should be (notably Don Coscarelli.) I never was a big lover of the italian horror guys (Fulci, Argento, etc.), but the fact that they are fairly well-known now also surprises me. I still have a soft spot for the Bad Horror Film, though, but I seldom indulge the habit anymore.

That nice guy thing. Again, I'm trying to work on the brooding asshole thing, cuz its a chick magnet. How many times to I need to remind you?

Chris = right bastard. Doug = brooding asshole. Got it.

Simon, is there any nasty name you'd rather be called by?
