I have to wonder if the religious right really hasn't gone too far. Even Howard Stern has spoken out against Bush recently, saying "I think this guy is a religious fanatic and a Jesus freak, and he is just hell-bent on getting some sort of bizzaro agenda" pushed though Congress. Howard Stern, people. Not that I'm a fan, but I am amused at the notion of Howard's loyal listeners being provoked into voting against Bush-Cheney in November. Amusing.

The Crack Monkeys are circling my head today, their leathery wings flapping in the night. They would like nothing better than if I ran screaming through the corporate offices and upturned the CEOs desk, then perched in the window to fling poo at him. They're funny that way. They've been so veryvery good lately, that they deserve a chance to cause some mayhem. So tempting.

Tru Calling is lame, but Eliza Dushku's cuteness is enough for me to watch it. Does that make me shallow? Didn't think so.

Stern is responding to the right-wing censorship vibe that is clearly going to come down the pipes as the neocons continue to build their power base. Despite their alliances with anti-government, anti-tax, pro-gun libertarians, the current regime will not support libertarians any more than it will support liberals. The current mantra is that property rights are the key right of liberty-- not free expression, not free assembly, not justice, not privacy. Property. So far, this has pleased the libertarians, but once they realize that the current regime also believes in intervening to protect the property of haves (especially legal entities such as corporations which should not be considered as having human rights) in opposition to free markets and individual liberty, then I think the libertarians of this country will see how dangerous an ally they had made.

Hmm. I would criticize you, but then I realize how many times I have watched something because Salma Hayek was on-screen, and I have to back down. Not to mention all the times gratuitous butt and thigh have stopped me from surfing past Sabado Gigante and I have to really shut my mouth.

Which is exactly why Howard's current anti-Bush spree pleases me. Here is a guy who's the mouthpiece/ringleader of a sizeable chunk of libertarian-leaning people. If he's catching on to the Right Wing Agenda and yakking about it, a lot of folks may be swayed to vote against Bush. Like him or not, Howard has a fair amount of influence with a segment of the population. If he gets them to vote with us it can only be beneficial.

I'm just giggling that he's pimping Al Franken's book on air. Cracks. Me. Up.

Did I not read a story recently about Howard Sterns show being taken off the air by a bunch of Jesus-Freak network owners who didn't want his filth pollutings Gods Own Airwaves?

Not that I've ever heard Sterns show mind, so I have no idea what the man is about.

And yes, watching Tru Calling just for Eliza is very shallow. But given that something like 3.5 million other people are watching the show, and by all accounts the *only* reason to watch it is Eliza, then I guess you can take some comfort from the fact that you're not the only shallow one. :)

The linked Salon.com article has more information about what happened. In a nutshell, Clear Channel claimed it pulled his show due to content -- but Howard's content hasn't changed. He is a rude, crude, outspoken shock jock. What has changed is his public opinion on BushCo; recently he has made anti-Bush statements on-air.

Clear Channel's ownership and the Bush family are old friends, so Howard claims his show was pulled for political reasons. He's the last guy you'd expect would get pulled for such reasons, which is why the whole debate has my interest.

I would not miss Howard disappearing from the airwaves but not this way. I just hoped people would wake up and loose interest and listen to lite jazz or something.

Why "back in the day" when say, I was growing up the people they put on tv. wouldn't even qualify as extras these days. It's almost scary how sugary sweet the eye candy is.

Howard Stern can be brilliant at times. I think he just likes pushing people's buttons. What he actually thinks compared to what he says on air are probably two different things. Just my opinion. I could definitely see him not liking Bush.

As for Tru Calling--I watched it once and thought it was alright. Who cares about being shallow anyway? Eliza is hot.

He publicly supported Bush in the 2000 election, right up until February or so. He's only recently made comments on-air that he thinks Bush is up to something.

Oh, wow. I would never have thought he'd support Bush. Well, at least he learned his lesson. And it is good that he's being vocal about it because he has a lot of followers--many without brains (have you heard them call his show???) so they'd probably willingly vote for who ever he thinks is best.
