quesarahGot my voter info packet in the mail today--this is the neat thing about the state of California. The government takes it upon itself to send candidate/issue information out to all registered voters ~1 month before elections. Some things are whack, like this whole recall brouhaha, but I think that's pretty cool.

I noticed that several of the current bands/songs I enjoy have an 80's retro sound, which makes me feel like a sad old lady. But hip, in that I know who bands like Saves the Day and Jet are. I think it's a one-shot thing for StD, since I didn't much care for the generic indie rock sound of "At Your Funeral" or "Freakish." I think what I like is the choppy poppy skinny-tie band sound they've got on "Anywhere With You." Jet I'm loving, mainly because I'm an unrepetent Iggy Pop fan and they masterfully channel Raw Power era Stooges on the single "Be My Girl." Love it. I don't quite know what to make of Hot Hot Heat yet, although I like "Bandages" and "Talk to Me Dance with Me." They sound like the bastard child of the Attractions and Talk Talk. They're odd but they're catchy.
I watched Smallville yesterday, and I still don't get the appeal. I've tried; I have friends who are raving Smallville fanatics. But I just don't get it. *feeling very much like Josh Baskin now*
