It's a gradual shift in percentages, not a dramatic cliff-drop-off. Of course there are other factors, but age really is the biggest factor. A young person who's conservative in many ways may not view a same-sex couple with as much disdain as their parents did. Funny but true.
I remember every one was shocked in 1980 at the demographic that voted for Reagan.
