I liked the old color scheme, but I really missed my links list. So sue me. I changed again.

While incapacitated with the Cold of Doom, I watched a few movies. Soul Plane is really dull and pedantic; I had better hopes for something that seemed to take great pride in being "un-PC." All it managed was un-funny.

I also caught Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind which only served to reinforce my inappropriate crush on Kirsten Dunst. Lots of other people have discussed Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey, who were remarkably cast as each other's usual type. But honestly, Kirsten and Tom Wilkinson very quietly stole the show. The entire plot hinges on their interaction and Dunst's ability to pull off her character's subsequent action; if she rings false, the house of cards tumbles. But she's a trouper, and her vulnerability and sense of betrayal are real.

I *heart* her.

Meanwhile, Wilkinson is tremendous as a subtley self-involved physician with no real concern for the ramifications of his actions. It sneaks up on you, what an ass he is. Wow. Mark Ruffalo turns in another solid performance (but wtf was up with his hair?) and Elijah Wood fucking creeped me out. Psycho.

OK, if you say so. But she is a young'un.

see i like kirsten dunst. i really do. really. but you can have her and i'll take kate. it works itself out so very nicely now doesn't it? i do agree that the subplot between dunst and wilkerson was magnificent and incredibly important. very very talented cast and, just damn fine screenwriting, and especially direction. did you know that they used no enhanced special effects in the movie. it was all done with the cameras? brilliant. (i think i'll watch it again this week).

and honey, kirsten's of age now. i don't call that inappropriate. crush away. ;)

Yeah, the writing is really good. Go Charlie Kaufman! I like the weird metaphors and plot devices he uses to capture a loving but dysfunctional relationship with serious communication issues. And using simple tools to demonstrate that the simplest response might just be the wrong one. As talented as he is, in the hands of a less-skilled cast this movie would've been awful. Kudos all around.

It had a great look, didn't it? I mean, it was a movie with a good visual component as well. Sometimes that's lacking.

You get Kate and I'll take Kirsten and I won't think about the fact that she's only 22. We'll all be just fine. ;)

this is very very true. and i enjoyed this movie a lot more than Adaptation, which was ok. but didn't totally gel with me like this did. LOVE THIS MOVIE (in case you hadn't gotten that)

22's not young really. that's only 2 years younger than me. and i'm not super young. so it's all good. i didn't even realize she was already 22. i thought she was like 20. if she can drink legally in the US, she's fair game. so kirsten for you, kate for me...at least for now it all works out. ;)

Adaptation was okay, but too gimicky for me to really care about any of the characters. Or maybe it was just Nicholas Cage, who in general I dislike. Dunno. On the other hand, I thought Being John Malkovich was brilliant. Love that movie.

Um, that's supposed to make me feel better? 'Cause, need I remind you that you're both younger than my oldest nephew. But no, we're not thinking about that or my fear that I'm turning into a lecherous old lady, and we're simply saying Kate for you, Kirsten for me. Right.

As long as I'm around, you'll never be thought of as the lecherous one. I've got that covered. ;-)

lol. Thanks for clearing that up, obviously I wasn't thinking properly. Naturally, you are the lecherous one. ;)

She's over 16 now isn't she? It was only inappropriate when we loved her as Claudia. But then, she had that lovely maturity about her. Probably comes with being a centuries old vampire and all.

I suppose I should watch that movie. I just tend to avoid Jim Carrey.

Yes, she's even over 21 now and she still has that lovely maturity about her. She just seems far too skilled an actor to be as young as she is. Maybe that's what it is.

And don't worry, Jim Carrey isn't Jim Carrey in the movie, so it's okay.

I have to agree with S--it's not a *JIM CARREY* movie. He's just in it. And not annoying. I higly recommend it.

It's very lovely to look at, too.
